Chair Sale Day!

I finally met someone with my same chair addiction!  I put an ad on craigs list for the Pottery Barn table & chairs and this wonderful lady came down from Maryland to check it out.  She decided not to get it b/c of the size BUT we started talking about chairs and the next thing I know I have like 15 of my chairs in the driveway for her to look at...she too loves chairs:-)

She ended up buying my two gorgeous Louise Blue Chairs plus a green chair project that was not completed and two additional wonderful old chairs I had not refreshed yet...now they are her project!  AND she is going to try and come to the tag sale we are having June 24th & 25th.  It was so fun chatting with her and dreaming about the day I might open my own shop vs. pulling stuff from my basement (honey are you reading this post today? hint hint).  I love days like today!  Now I have room to buy new stuff:-)

On to my weekend finds, this was a great weekend for treasure hunting!  Take a look at a few of my finds....

My new Favorite chest is done!

So this is just a quick post before I head out treasure hunting!  Last night I finished two chests and a desk, yahoo!  One of the chests I just LOVE!  So I wanted to share it with you this morning and then I am going to put in the Furniture Fridays with Miss Mustard Seed.  I really need a decent camera b/c my pictures just don't do it justice....keep in mind it is old but I love it.  I kept the top wood and painted the base with chalk paint and then waxed:-)

This is my latest find for Miss Mustard Seed, can't wait to see how it turns out!
This little chairs (or actually big chairs) are done in Louis Blue Chalk paint.

Enjoy a little patina in your life!
Cheers-- Kelly

Reveal of a few new projects..

Good morning sunshine!  So yesterday was a blistering 97 degrees here in Northern Virginia and most normal people were in the AC but I of course was outside painting!  Well the deal is I don't have an air conditioned work area and I have an outdoor market coming up on Saturday so it was either suck it up outside or don't have additional inventory....so I sucked it up like a big girl:-)
I used my Annie Sloan Chalk Paint which was great b/c I could just start painting, no need for a layer of primer!  I learned about this paint from Miss Mustard Seed she does amazing stuff! I ended up doing a coffee table in Old Violet, two chairs in Louis Blue (not sure if I love them yet) and two dressers in Old Ochre.  Here is a little sneak peak...they are not finished but half way there...

I LOVE this color!!!

This is in process or before & after.  I painted both chairs last night now it's time for wax.

This puppy needs a little distressing and some cool knobs and it will be ready to go!

This is my favorite..I might be tempted to keep this sucker! I kept the original wood color on the top.  It needs a little paint touch up and minor distressing..then with a coat of wax it's going to be gorgeous!  And it has the original hardware which is awesome too!

I had a girlfriend come over yesterday and she saw all of my goodies and loved them..it made me feel good.  I buy what I like and so it's fun when someone else appreciates it as well:-)

Have a fabulous weekend!

The husband busted me!

Yesterday I was I leaving a little shop where I found a few new goodies and I thought to myself "I can't wait to write a post about this!  My blog will be the place that I can share all my new finds w/o my husband finding out about every little thing I buy."  Yeah right!  Last night J came home and he was reading upstairs while I worked in the office.  I went up to see what he was up to and all of a sudden he starts recalling my Stylish Patina post for the day!  Ut oh...I'm in trouble.....he laughed but still I was thinking "so much for the blog being my confession booth:-)".  Well honey is you are reading today this is what I bought yesterday...I love you!

I love old school enamel ...can't you tell :-)

This is think was an old army issued desk chair I just love it and it's in great shape!

A close up of my goodies.  An old english tea pot, english gray boat and my enamel loves.

So this find made me giddy! The top two fabrics are by Serena & Lily, I found out about them online and just loved their stuff but it was way to pricey for me (I am cheap:-). I found these two in the remnant section and swooped in!  I just love them...have no idea what I'll be doing with them yet but they had to be mine.

It's a hot one here in Virginia...stay cool! If you are interested in any of the above items email me at Kelly@stylishpatina.com or check out my Etsy Shop.

Cheers!

Chalk Paint ...oooh fun!

So yesterday I was stuck behind the computer working my real job (as a consultant) on a nonprofits website ...so after 5pm I got the urge to play with my latest toy - Annie Sloan Chalk Paint!  I bought this when I went out to drop off a pick to Miss Mustard Seed and of course I couldn't decide on a color to start with so I bought 5!  The original intent was to try it before I attempt to redo a built in at my friends house (that will be interesting!).  I figure with the chalk paint I don't have to use a primer and I can use in it w/o worrying about fumes and stuff for the kids, it's very "green" and kid friendly.

So my 1st attempt was with this old frame I have...I thought it needed a pop of color.  I used the color Duck Egg and love it!

My pictures are all goofed up so you'll have to turn your head to the side today to look at my two new projects:-)  A cool bow front desk and a dresser both of which I think I am going to do in Chalk Paint to practice before I do the built in.  I do plan a getting a better camera so hopefully my pictures will improve!

Sorry about the picture goof up today!  Stay cool...it's feeling muggy!

Before & After Plus New Finds!

Okay...so sorry I have slacked on posting.  My brother got married in S.C. last weekend and this weekend we had a big party for them at home in Virginia so needless to say it's been a crazy couple of weeks. PLUS we flew to S.C. but I messed up on our returning flight, I though we left at 10:45 but it was 10 and we missed our plane!  So we ended up having to rent a car and drive home...my husband was NOT please!  I am no longer allowed to be in charge of the travel info...oops!

Anyway on to the good stuff!  We did so many things to our house I'll have to sprinkle in the projects throughout the posts but I did want to show you a before and after ...keep in mind we are still working on the after:-)  Our next external project is to put up crown molding around the front the door and fix the front step where the scary port-o-potty things was on the front :-)  So here it is...
Before

And After

Just like furniture paint makes a huge difference!  By painting the front door red and the shutters black it made the house!  Then we put on a new roof and power washed the front a little.  I really want shutters on the 2nd story as well but we are going to need to replace the siding so it isn't worth it until we do that.

On to furniture!  I had a GREAT couple of weeks finding goodies both for me and for Miss Mustard Seed!  I found her a very cool old china cabinet and the fab pink french chair that I showed a couple weeks ago.  And for me I found this amazing dresser (picture #2) that I love so much I'm not sure I can paint it.... Here are a few of my finds.

The next two chairs were super old that I got at an action and they were a little scary looking but had the coolest lines.  A little refreshing and they are as good as new!

I have started to really love rocking chairs.  I found the a kids side one (painted green) and then this great adult size one.

This rocker the guy I got it from was telling me how his wife rocked all of their kids to sleep in it.  These stories are the reason I love refinding and refreshing old furnishings!

I love an old steamer trunk!  This is a small one with a slightly rounded top.  Super cool!

Okay well that's it for now!  Check out my Faceook page, Etsy Shop and Twitter if you're interested!  Have a great day!

Our 4 dogs & the house we bought for them!

So I figured I'd give you a little background on me and my family of dogs.  My husband and I met at a local dog park (yes it happens!) we both had two dogs.  I had Rai (Weim) and Baily or Bai as we call her (Anatolian Shepherd) and J had Macie (Small Pit) and Halo (Lab mix).  We started dating and juggling 4 dogs between our two townhouses we owned, no small feat!  I was was working full time as a consultant and getting my MBA full time as well.  We got engaged at Christmas 2009 about 8 months after we started dating.  We were older (36/37) so I think we knew what we were looking for...not necessarily 4 dogs! Introducing Rai, Bai, Macie and Halo our children:-)
 Rai
 Macie
 Bai
 Halo

We moved into J's large townhouse, rented my townhouse but J's had no backyard...ugh!  4 young dogs, two working adults lets just say we needed to get a house with a yard!  We got married, got things in order to put J's house on the market and started looking for a house with a yard.  Meanwhile I finished MBA school and my company downsized!  Yes I think we worked through all of the major life stressors in the 1st 6 months of our marriage!

We had a small house budget for the DC Metro area and wanted to stay close into the city vs. commuting from the suburbs.  We put J's house on the market and it went under contract the 1st weekend and we had 45 days to find a new home!  Pressure :-)  We put in a couple offers and lost those houses, ugh.  We went to see our current house early on in our search and I literally walked in the door and walked out.  I don't think I even went upstairs it stunk, it was dark and choppy...no..no..no! "But the yard" J kept saying. We kept looking, lost another house we LOVED and went back to the yucky house....this time it was cleared out so it was a little better but I wasn't sold except for the yard.  It was amazing...not pretty but BIG, a half acre 6 miles from D.C.!  So we ended up buying the serious fixer upper, living in the scary basement for 4 months and gutting the house all the way to the studs....I'll share more in my next post, for now here are a couple pics of the house when we bought it.  You'll have to check back tomorrow to see what we did to it!

This is the house when we bought it (ugh!)
This is the 300 sq ft basement we lived in for 4 months
And this is the reason we bought the house...the yard for the dogs :-) and this is only a third of the yard!
Check back tomorrow to see what we did with the house :-)
