Must Haves!

Just a quick hello tonight things have been crazy between the real job, my Stylish Patina day to day stuff and getting ready for the Tag Sale this weekend.  Of course I keep finding things to buy that need to be refreshed!  Ughhh!  Then I ran out of chalk paint which required a trip to Lucketts to On A Whim which is the only place you can buy Annie Sloan chalk paint!  (Seriously I need to just be a distributor!).  I got there and they were still out of Old White BUT the stockist was sweet enough to mail me two pints :-)

I ended up having a wonderful conversation with the owner Donna and I might have gotten a new "picking" client out of it!  More to come on that but exciting stuff!

So my blog tonight is about the top things I think are "must haves" if you are going to refresh furniture at home (the easy way)! #1 my mom gave me the insight on and I use it ALL the time (thanks mom!).

#1 Howard Restore a Finish - You would be AMAZED at what a little but of this rubbed on with some extra fine steel wool will do for an old piece of furniture it makes it look beautiful!  Scratches disappear!

#2 Howard Feed-N-Wax - Also just wonderful for adding sine and luster to old items.  This smells better than the restore a finish so if there are no really deep scratched just use this.

#3 Decent paint brushes - I bought Purdy Brand ones from Home Depot.  They are not quite top of the line but I have seen a big difference.

#4 Professional Grade Sand Paper - 80, 150, 220 of the grits I usually use.  I have an auto sander but find I still do most of my distressing by hand it's one of the parts I love.  I just sucked it up and bought a large pack of each b/c I kept going back to Home Depot.

That's it for now!  Have a great night :-)

Almost there!

Good Morning!  I am headed out the door to a meeting with my consulting client but just had to post a few pics of my projects from yesterday...they will be finished up tonight no matter how long it takes me from 5pm on it's all Stylish Patina :-)

This might be a contender for my fav chair it turned out amazing!  I did it to go with the little desk I have.  They are both done in chalk paint Duck egg color.

This is going to be beautiful when it's done:-)  Hand painted in Paris Grey Chalk Paint.  The gold is original :-)

This is an adorable little side table.  The exterior is Louis Blue chalk paint and the inside is Paris Grey to add a little dimension.

This is the night stand to the dresser.  Also done in Paris Grey.  It has not been distressed yet but will be wonderful when completed!

Have a wonderful Monday! I'm off to work:-)

Some great finds today!!

Just a quick glimps of a few of my MANY find from shopping today...lets just say I made multiple trips home for "drop off" today and event used Ira at one point. Below are pics of a few of my favorite larger items.. a couple of these I have already started to work on so you will see before & after pics in the next couple of days:-)  I did get some great smaller things too but you'll have to wait until the tag sale to see all of those:-)

My parents are in upstate NY for the summer and I got a call from mom today saying that dad had found a few sales for them to got o for me:-)  How cute is that!  Watch out NY :-)

Okay here are the "goods". This is an amazing old frame & in the back round is a gorgeous cherry dresser/buffet (I'm sure my mom will call and correct me).  Actually I think it's a serving buffet b/c it has a small top that pulls out.  This is usually not my style but it was in such great shape and the lady was so sweet so what happens I end up with TWO of them!  It was a great deal:-)

This was a total last minute find and I just love it!  It is on wheels which I adore, total bonus:-)

Now these two might be my favorite finds of all...totally not everyone's taste but I love them.  The mirror vintage and SUPER heavy, I don't know if I can part with this one:-)  And the chair I just though was so unique and interesting.  It is already in the middle of being painted.  It will still hold much of it patina with a very distressed vintage look and a fresh Serena & Lily seat:-)Yes that's me in the mirror taking the picture, scary!

Just had the customer pick up my enamel table today so here is her replacement.  This little guy needs a lot of help but I love an enamel table top:-)  And the mirror is another awesome heavy old mirror.

Adore this little table and the frenchy side table.  I have the dresser to match but need to pick it up:-) Each your heart out!

Here is another picture of the other cherry buffet, remember I have TWO!  If you want one email me:-) Kelly@StylishPatina.com.  yes can you see how FULL my garage is:-)

That's it for now..stay tuned for some previews of completed projects for the tag sale and remember you can always see the full inventory at my Stylish Patina Etsy Store or on our Stylish Patina Facebook page.

Enjoy!

Shopping & logo design

So last night I spent the evening with my dear friend Amy (who by the way is leaving me and moving to VT) we were reviewing my logo options...yes I am getting an official logo for Stylish Patina:-) An old coworker of mine and wonderful artist is helping me pull it together she does great work!  I am using the European shopping bike in the logo design and Amy asked my "why?" since it didn't have relevance to furniture or home decor.  In my mind I just picture all those cool old vintage bikes riding around Europe with little baskets for shopping and it makes me happy:-) She said "okay" :-)  In the same sentence she says "what about a cool chair, you said yourself you love chairs!" I said "true but I'm kinda set on the bike" thinking in the back of my head did she have a point or should I go with something more neutral like a cool flower or something?  After all she named herself VP of Marketing for Stylish Patina...and we decided we need to have a shop in a Barn in Vermont...hmm then I thought of all the revisions I had worked on with Adina for the logo with the bike and said "forget it" I'm keeping the bike for now, it can always be refresh later"...plus I always imagined a little retail shop with a cool vintage bike parked outside the shop....so the bike stays!  I will reveal the new logo next week once it is finalize...step 2 is a new blog/website layout that will be coming a little later..I do have a real job too I need to work on:-)

So I designated today and tomorrow as shopping days for the upcoming tag sale at my house on June 24th and 25th.  I have been selling lots of stuff so I needed to find some goodies.  This can actually be the hard part when you have a deadline...even my husband said last night "yeah you just need to buy the cool stuff when you find it b/c it may not always be there when you need it."  See even hubby is coming around to the new business:-)  So after Amy and I had the "chair vs. bike debate" last night I went out and bought 4 chairs today!  LOL I must be channeling my chairs (I am also a table girl:-) barn tables are my fav!).  Any way they don't look like much now but I could just picture them all gussied up with pretty fabric and painted arms and legs....now I don't know if I will have time to do them by the tag sale so either they will be sold as a project for someone else or I'll find time to work on them.  I have all of that Fab Serena & Lily fabric that I am dying to use!

I also found a STEAL today lets just say I almost felt bad what a good deal it was...a dresser and side table, no pics today but maybe tomorrow:-)  Okay well that's all for now ...here are some pics of my new finds...yes there is a cool old typewriter in there too!!!
 The day of chairs

I've been looking for one of these forever!  To sell of keep I don't know??

One of my new projects but not my steal of the day :-)  Stay tuned for that one...

Have a wonderful weekend!

Cheers
Kelly

P.S. This is my Stylish Patina bike :-) I'd like a few flowers in the basket but not sure we will get that this time:-)

Vintage Oak Chairs Before & After

First off I'm super excited (and a little sad) I sold my enamel table top yesterday to a woman from NY.  BUT she was so stoked about getting it I felt better :-)  I also shipped out my vintage chandelier to TN yesterday and a woman picked up the Pottery Barn table & chairs set so it was a busy day!  I need to get shopping this weekend:-)

So one of my latest finds was a set of 4 vintage oak chairs.  I know your thinking country not so cool and even though they are not my preferred style I do always buy them!  I just think they are interesting looking.  My last set sold at Lucketts with a barn table and I left them alone (no paint) BUT last night I got the urge to be creative and take something vintage/country and make it a bit more current by adding a gray paint.  I think they are totally cool.  I can imagine them up against a black table or used as an accent chair in a room or hall way.  Take a look at the before and after.
Before

After
They look a bit more purple than grey in this picture but they are, promise:-)

The little table I found and paid way to much for it but it was soo cute!  Here are a couple other goodies I picked up this week.  I have been selling trunks like hot cakes so I found a couple more medium sized ones and this adorable baby basket.

Have a wonderful day!

Rolling Steamer Trunks & Partnerships

Seriously it's not an easy task shipping steamer trunks!  I sold 4 on Etsy which is great except I had no idea how to ship them:-)  This hobby turned business venture is moving fast and I am winging the shipping a little bit...but I ended up just using the good old USPS.  I just bought some saran wrap stuff from the Public Storage in my neighborhood wrapped them all up and hauled them to the post office and wala...they are shipped!

The hubby was not too pleased the night before as we are literally rolling steamer trunks along the grass in an effort to saran wrap them and then tape them.  Not his favorite thing to do after a day at the office!  Of course his 1st thought..."so how much did you make off these"..and I say "oh honey, enough money...it's a growing business" (right folks!).

My next bit of exciting news is that I sold my old sewing machine to a blogger in my "hood" Pure Joy Events.  She is doing a vintage sewing party for her daughter and is planning on using it as a prop, how cool!  So we chatted over email and I am going to team up with Pure Joy Events and another blogger in my "hood" 6 Bittersweets for a little photo shoot hopefully where they will use some of my vintage items...how cool is that!  I have to say one of my favorite things about this is all the cool people I have met!  Stay tuned for more to come....sorry no pics today:-(  I have to work at my real job, bummer....

Reminder we have a Tag Sale coming up June 24th 25 9-2pm in Falls Church Va.  Sign up for our mailing list for the inside scoop on specials and tag sales here it takes 30 seconds, promise!

Cheers!
