The Stylish "Green" Home

So yes by reusing/refreshing vintage furniture you are officially "going green"!  Who knew going green could be so stylish:-).  I also wanted to let you folks know that the Annie Sloans Chalk Paint that I use is very low VOC so once again great for you and your kids.

I have been researching some "green" fabrics as well and am planning on looking into other organic paint options for you eco friendly folks!  I'll let you know what I find out.

I am in the process of redesigning my blog/wesite and I plan on having a "Green Home" section so we can keep up to date on the latest trends and small ways we can made a difference.  Stay tuned!

Today I am busy writing my DIY Del Ray article, I'll send you a link when it is done.  The chair below is the project I will be highlighting.  I LOVE it!

Great chest, still has lots of paina, perfect height for a changing table.

New goodies at the shop!

Good Afternnon!

Yesterday was BUSY! I had a couple great brainstorming meetings regarding new business ventures as well as I dropped off a couple new items in the shop and got some painting done!  Did I tell you I am going to write an article for a new blog called DIY Del Ray, www.diydelray.com, it was created by a few ladies in the Del Ray Alexandria area that are talking about how to live in small spaces:-)  Ah do I relate to that!!! Any hoo last night I started documenting my steps for redoing a piece so I can write my article for them, fun stuff.

So what's new in the shop???  Well.....my all time favorite chair I just put in there (cry).  I hope it goes to a loving home.  I also put in some very awesome old cameras that would be fabulous for decoration or collection.  I just finished a sweet little side table and then my favotite a bunch of old glass bottles in multiple colors.  This is another addiction of mine.  Cool old glassware then when it reflects the light is awazing.  I also like to use them for a single flower or a bunch if the neck is wide enough.

I'll be in the parking lot with some extra inventory this weekend at Stifel & Capra in Falls Church  if you want to come by and see me:-)

There is my baby...love that chair.  It's truely a one of kind, you will never find another one like it.  She is $150 and the little kids rocker is $35

Cameras range from $55 and up depending on style and age.

Glass bottles ranging feom $5 up depding on size and color go check them out they are awesome!! I have some on the porch and in my section.
Funk old school kids "push" shopping cart.
 Kid school chairs $15/each
 awesome water/wine glasses super sturdy!
Set of blue bowls and fun saucers.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Running & Newbie Insights

Good morning!  Well I got out of bed this morning and it felt like upstate NY nice a crisp so I went for a RUN!  Now for those of you that don't know me you think "good for you" ...if you know me personally you are saying "it's about time slacker!".  I normally consider myself a pretty avid runner.  I got my weim puppy specifically as a running buddy and I've trained for at least 4 marathons but only run 2 due to injuries in the later stages of my training.

Normally on a Saturday at 6am in the summer I am getting up and having coffee before I start my long run with the DC Road Runner group by the Iwo Memorial. Needless to say for many reason I have become a major slacker over the past 6 months.  I'm hoping today is the start of be getting back to being a "runner" again.

Rai my running buddy a 6 year old Weim that has run up to 20 miles with me when training!

NEWBIE INSIGHTS
So I was just talking to someone the other day at the shop and I think one of the main things I can pass along to people if they are looking to do this either for themselves or as a little business is you don't need all the fancy equipment.  When I started I ended up buying a large paint sprayer thinking it would be better/faster.  It is in some ways BUT it's messy and a pain to change the paint color so if you are goin with an all white theme then go for it!  But for me I found out I prefer to hand paint then I can be more creative with the colors.

As far as the sander goes...I did buy an electric sander and it wasn't that expensive.  If I need to sand a large table or something before painting it is helpful but for my distressing I actually pefer to do that by hand as well.  It's part of the creative process for me:-)

So those or my couple of thoughts for you today!

Cheers!

Delivery!

I have to say I've met some really cool people doing Stylish Patina as well as selling Stella & Dot jewelry. It's interesting once I got out of traditional Corporate America I found more people I enjoyed.  I'm sure a big part of it is that I am doing something I enjoy but it's an intersting observation.

So last night I talked my husband into helping me deliver the 3 custom pieces I did for the Del Ray family that is expecting a little boy in a few weeks.  I will hopefully be able to share of few pictures of the nursery with you once they get it set up but for now here are the pics of the two dressers.  "N" the mom really wanted a blue top on the dressers after much debate we did a blue top on one of them:-).  I used Chalk paint - Old White and Loiuse Blue. These are not the best pics but it will give you an idea for now.

Other updates -- I met with a store owner in Old Town Alexandria yesterday and will be doing some picking for her so that's exciting and I have a delivery that needs to go out to Miss Mustard Seed soon, some fab chairs and a sideboard.

I found this pottery barn style table the other day that I am planning on fixing up...if you need one let me know and I'll paint it custom for you! OR if you want it to work on it's yours for $75...come and get it!

That's all for now!

Cheers

New projects, camera and front door!

It's been a busy weekend!  My husband didn't play golf (which is very odd:-) So I had help loading and hauling furniture to the shop on Saturday and then Sunday we did some much needed house projects!

On Friday I was on a mission for frames and basically the 1st place I stopped I hit the jackpot!  Granted they weren't as large as I wanted and I I usually like really this frames but these still fit the bill:-)

I then made them pretty.....

That was the Friday night project....then Saturday morning we headed to the shop and set up in the parkign lot and met some great people and a few repeat customers:-) Here is a pic of Ira (the truck) working hard:-)  Thank goodness for Ira!

On my way home from the shop Saturday afternoon I found a treasure, a tall footstool / small bench.  So this became one of my Sunday projects....I don't have the before (sorry!) just image gross and nasty:-)
And here is "Belle" now...yes I named her.

Since "J" was home Sunday we / he worked on 3 big projects 1-finish off the molding on the inside of our new french door, 2- begin fizxing our ceiling that has water damage from Ice Damns 3-put on the molding to our front door.  I only have a picture of #3 for you but it's def the most interesting:-) Here is the before and after.  We still need to finish it up but HIUGE improvement!  Thank you honey.

So as you know I got a new fancy camera and I am trying to learn how to use it...here are a couple additional pics for fun:-)

I hope you had a great weekend!

Cheers!

Foot stool ReFresh -- headed to Vermont

Good morning!  I mentioned my dear friend is moving to Vermont well before she leaves I refreshed an old vintage stool she had.  It was super easy I just painted it with Old White Chalk Paint, then distressed it and applied 2 coats of furniture wax and voila!

And yes these are more of my flowers from the yard:-).  I'll be in the parking lot at the shop Stifel & Capra in Falls Church again this week if you want to swing by!

Cheers!
